Redtail is a ThunderClan ranger under Sunstar, Bluestar and Firestar's leadership in the forest and lake territories. They were born to Rosetail and Sunstar alongside his sister Spottedleaf. Redpaw was soon promoted to an apprentice with Tigerclaw as his mentor, later promoted to a warrior by the name of Redtail. Later on in life, Redtail was promoted to deputy, although he stepped down later on, returning to a default warrior.

Redtail is one of Firestar's most loyal council members and is assigned as Foxpaw's mentor. Redtail is often on the sidelines of debates but gives his advice when needed. He considers retiring to the elders' den to be with his friend Mousefur but is caught in the heat of the Fake Eclipse, resulting him being slain by Mudstar of WindClan.

→ After Tigerclaw's assassination on him, Redtail had a large scar on the back of his neck and a floppy, torn left ear alongside multiple other scars on his body and a jagged scar along his back from the hawk attack as an apprentice.

→ When Redpaw and Spottedpaw both came out as trans at the same time, cats could not tell them apart for a long time due to their strikingly similar appearances.

→ Redtail suffers from PTSD (due to Tigerclaw's assassination) and OCD.
